Precast concrete products – Beam-and-block floor systems – Part 4: Expanded polystyrene blocks

BS EN 15037 part 4 is a product standard for EPS blocks not EPS sheets.

The scope covers two types of block

EPS Blocks are placed on spaced adjacent parallel beams

and extend under the beam having no mechanical properties classed a R1

or over the beams therefore have mechanical properties classed as R2

Mechanical properties classed a R1

No mechanical properties are required as the deck or screed is supported by the beams. The function of block is to provide a formwork system for pouring screed and long term thermal resistance. Blocks can made up of one or more EPS elements with different properties provide they are joined.

Mechanical properties classed a R2

Mechanical properties are required as the deck or screed is supported by the EPS extending over the beams. The function of the EPS block is to provide a formwork system for pouring screed, long term thermal resistance and mechanical resistance to loads applied to the deck or screed. Blocks can made up of one or more EPS elements with different properties provide they are joined.

Clause 4.3.4 requires the material extend over the beam header to be a minimum of EPS200.
